The National Family Court Statistics published by the MOJ on the 30th September 2021 ‘presents statistics on activity in the family courts of England and Wales and provides figures for the latest quarter (April to June 2021)’ which include the following:

Increase in the number of cases started in the Family Courts which were up 14% on the 2020 figures;

Increase in the average time for divorce proceedings – from the lodging of the divorce petition to Decree Nisi this increased by 2 weeks;

Increase in both divorce petitions and decree absolutes filed at court which were up 7% on the equivalent qaurter in 2020.;

Decrease in both domestic violence remedy applications and orders made. These decreased by 6% compared to the same quarter in 2020;.

Increase in the number of both adoption applications and orders. Adoption applications were up by 27% on the equivalent quarter in 2020 and the number of adoption orders issued increased by 96% compared to the equivalent quarter in 2020.
