The Minitry of Justice has announced that on the 27 February 2023 ‘the Marriage and Civil Partnership (Minimum Age) Act 2022’ will come into force in England and Wales.
What will this mean for couples wishing to marry?
This will mean that couples under the age of 18 will not be able to marry in England and Wales regardless of whether they have parental consent.
The age of marriage has been raised to 18 in England and Wales ‘to protect children from ‘the scourge of forced marriage’ the MOJ news update states.
